About

In September 2005, some former colleagues and friends sat on my rooftop overlooking the San Francisco Bay putting a hurt on a couple of tasty bloody mary’s.  We’d decided to strike out on our own, create a better way for folks to access cutting-edge comedy, and build a company with a high fun - low jackass ratio (F:J).

Initially we struggled with a good name for the company.  We were mixing two worlds filled with notoriously crappy business names: the web and the comedy industries.  DigitalFerret.com?  Shenanigan’s Ha-Ha Hole Where Every Night is Ladies Night?  The bar was set pretty low, so we settled on RooftopComedy.  Our first rooftop board meeting had been a good way to kick off a company, so why not?

It’s been over a year since our founding and, like most start-ups, there’s been no shortage of excitement.  Indeed, there’ve been plenty of days when we could all use a few less thrills.   But we’ve hit our key “success metrics: comics dig what we’re doing, we’ve spread laughs to viewers from around the world, and we’re still happily jackass-free.  Not many businesses can say that.

We decided to publish the RooftopBlog as a place to further connect with folks we know, share some of the daily fun and struggle of working in this industry, and let off some steam when things don’t always go our way.  Hopefully you’ll enjoy it.
