I have been kicking around an idea about drug mules and what they must be thinking as they wait nervously at the airport. The song would be from the perspective of the mule. I decide that the first verse will fool the listener into thinking the protagonist is a normal husband, looking forward to seeing his loving wife after being away on a business trip. It would be sung to her. The music would have a romantic, lilting quality, à la Simon & Garfunkel, or Joni Mitchell. I write:

‘I call you from the road to say I’ll be there in a while,
… A short plane ride and I will get to see your pretty smile,
… There’s nothing on the radio, I fiddle with the dial,
… Then I see a sign, the airport’s just another mile.’
